Tips For Panic Attacks

Do you need some specific tips for lowering the impact of panic attacks?  Here is a list of tips for panic attacks.

  1. Look at the trees outside.  Huh???  Seriously, go look at a tree.  Now consider all that a tree has to endure.  It faces storms, age, and changing seasons.  But trees handle all these difficulties with beauty, grace, and quiet peace.  Now tell yourself that you are going to be just like that tree.  You may be facing a difficult moment, but you will overcome with the same character as that tree.
  2. As soon as the panic attack begins, tell yourself firmly to slow down and take a deep breath.  Slow your physical activity down.  Slow your mental activity down.  Be very deliberate with your thoughts.  Slowly and silently repeat encouraging and calming words to yourself.  Don’t let your thoughts dwell on your fears.  Focus intently on remaining calm.  Here are some positive affirmations that can bring you back from the brink of panic:  “I am over exaggerating the situation.  I am safe.  I am calm.  I am in control.  I’m not going to let this beat me.  I will overcome.”
  1. Play some mellow music—something you enjoy, but not “peppy” music.  Many people like oldies music.  Whatever music makes you smile and relaxes you, that’s what you want!  This is one of the very effective tips for panic attacks.  I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage, “Music doth soothe the savage beast.”
  2. Light several candles and set them nearby.  Do your best to focus on the flame.  Actually draw that shimmering light inside.  Say to yourself, “I may not always be able to feel it, but I have a shimmering light within myself that is bright and beautiful.”
  3. Call someone to help you take the focus off your panic attack.  There are crisis hotlines who are more than willing to help you fight your panic attack.  Many people find that talking to an outsider and having that person care about them makes a big difference.  So before the crisis begins, one of the most significant tips for panic attacks is to add one or two crisis hotline numbers into your cell phone or put the numbers by your house phone.

There are more tips for panic attacks out there.  Many drugs are available (such as Xanax and Paxil) which can be prescribed by a doctor.  There are natural remedies (such as yoga and hypnosis).  There are also various therapies which can get you prepared.  I suggest that in addition to the tips for panic attacks listed here, search online for more tips.  Do your homework and you’ll be ready the next time a panic attack comes around.
