Natural Panic Attack Cures

Do you regularly suffer from periods of grief and intense terror?  Do you have troubling thoughts of imminent death, paranoia, danger, or going insane?  Are you sometimes overwhelmed by these intense feelings, and left confused and afraid—almost paralyzed?  If so, you are likely one of the millions of people who suffer from a condition known as a panic attack.  Left untreated, it can lead to extreme antisocial behavior.  There are various well-known drugs used to treat this condition, such as Paxil, Prozac, Valium, Xanax, and Zoloft.  However, some people prefer to turn their eyes on natural panic attack cures.  Let’s examine several of these.

Homeopathic & Herbal Medicine

Homeopathy uses animal, mineral, and plant sources in highly diluted doses.  These doses would actually trigger an attack if administered at full strength.  Generally, the remedy has been specially designed for the particular person, as well as their emotional and physical state of health.  The practitioner will ask you several questions in order to determine what and how much medicine to produce.

Herbal medicine has long been recognized by other cultures (such as Native Americans) as having healing properties.  Along with being a safe, natural panic attack remedy, it can also be used to alleviate an upset tummy, stress headache, tight and tense muscles, and insomnia.  Kava kava, valerian roots, skullcaps, lemon balm, passion flowers, St. John’s wort, chamomile, and vervain

Meditation

Clinical studies have shown that meditation alters a person’s metabolism and blood pressure to healthier levels.  It also helps people clear their minds and relieve tension and stress.  A common technique is as follows:

  • Find a place with minimal distractions and noise (including the phone)
  • Get comfortable on the floor and cross your legs.  Be sure your spine remains straight.
  • Choose a sound or word (“ahm” is often used) and say the word or sound in your mind repetitively for about 20 minutes or so.  When your thoughts start to wander, quietly return your attention to the word or sound.
  • This technique can be practiced numerous times each week.  It is also good to meditate just prior to taking on a situation that could set off the onset of a panic attack.

Hypnosis

During hypnosis, positive affirmations are gently administered to the subconscious.  These affirmations are selected based on what is causing the stress.  For example, if you are nervous about having to go in tomorrow and meet with the boss, an appropriate subconscious suggestion might be, “Good communication makes my job simpler and more pleasant.  Meeting with my boss will be a positive and rewarding experience.”  Hypnosis can be self-administered or with the help of a hypnotist.

Additional Alternatives

Some additional natural panic attack remedies include the following:

Yoga, Biofeedback, and Qigong – Not unlike meditation, these methods focus on breathing exercises, mental exercises and/or posture to ease stress, increase energy levels, and improve circulation.

Nutritional Therapy – Changing your diet is another natural panic attack reducer.  Caffeine and food additives can increase the chances of a panic attack and should be consumed in moderation.

Aromatherapy – Lavender oil, marjoram oil, and benzoin oil can be an effective natural panic attack remedy.
